The Walt Disney Company today announced an agreement with Marvel Entertainment to acquire the comic publisher and its stable of over 5,000 characters. The deal is valued at $4 billion in cash and Disney stock.

Marvel doesn’t publish games itself, but it frequently licenses out its characters to a wide variety of publishers. Currently, the comics company is providing characters for new and upcoming titles from Activision (Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2), Capcom (Marvel vs. Capcom 2), Sega (Iron Man 2), and THQ (Marvel Super Hero Squad).

In a conference call with analysts, Disney executives fielded questions about their plans for the acquisition. And while they mentioned the need to respect deals that were already in place, there were hints that Disney might look to replace Marvel’s licensing partners in the future, where appropriate.

I say this: “Mark my words, if Mickey Mouse joins the X-Men, I’m done.”

I’ve been holding off writing this post, falsely holding onto whatever sliver of hope we had that Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles would avoid being cancelled. Numerous outlets are reporting that it is over and even writer Ashley Miller has told me it’s a done deal.

For several weeks we’ve pumped sources from Warner Bros and Fox with all of them saying that it didn’t look good. Despite reporting those comments we pushed forward planning ideas for a possible season 3 podcast but those ideas are scrapped.

I would say I’m mad, but mostly sad, that we have to let go of the great community we’ve built around the Terminator Radio Podcast. The absolute best Terminator community ever! I know there are other podcasts and other communities but none of them hold a candle to the things we’ve built together.

I’ve made a ton of new friends and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. Remember that you all helped to build this awesome community with your feedback, theories and support.

So before this goes on too long I just want to say THANK YOU!

God Bless and keep pressing forward.

Hey gang, we have received tons of email based on our Terminator Podcast and we wanted to share this one on the blog. This one comes from Phil over at http://resistance2029.blogspot.com/

One wild comment on the last episode, if you think about it, it is an ending kind of like “LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST.”

If you’ve seen that movie, the whole point was that Jesus gets tempted one last time before he dies. He sees what would happen if he doesn’t die in a parallel future timeline. He doesn’t become “CHRIST.” The world gets worse, even though he marries Mary Magdalene, and has kids, his life gets worse, and the world becomes hell on earth. At the end, he wakes up out of his delusion on the cross, and it doesn’t happen, it was all a Rod Serling dream.

The entire arc of the series would then be a Last Temptation of John Connor (J.C.)… Because he falls for a damned robot girl who flashed her tits at him, he fails to become the future leader who saves mankind from the infernal machines…he finds out that the future does not happen, his Dad does what he can, but in the end they fail. John Connor’s DESTINY can be altered by making terrible mistakes…he doesn’t get to marry Kate, he doesn’t become a rebel leader, and SKYNET WINS. Thus, the Last Temptation (by Cameron) of J.C. is our permanent television ending…its all just an experiment in possibility…which of course a lot of people would hate to think about… did we just watch 30 episodes only to find out Bob Newhart wakes up in an old television series?

Rod Serling would be proud, but the fans are going to be pissed.

Considering the religous tone of the show could this theory be what the writers had in mind? What are your thougths? Why not head over to Phil’s site and give him your opinion on this theory. http://resistance2029.blogspot.com/

Americans are watching more video online, on their cell phones and on television, according to the Nielsen Company’s latest “three screen” report.

The report, issued Monday and covering the last three months of 2008, shows that the average American television viewer is watching more than 151 hours of television per month an “all-time” high up from more than 145 hours during the same period the previous year, Nielsen said.

The increase in television watching is part of a long-term trend, said Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes.

He attributed the rise to a greater availability of televisions the average household has more televisions than people. There are “many, many more cable channels than before,” he said.

Also contributing to the increase are digital recorders, DVR and TiVo devices, which allow viewers to watch programs at their leisure rather than during the show’s slated time slots. Nielsen has dubbed such viewing “timeshifted TV.”

What does all this mean? It’s means you need to listen/watch a podcast to balance out all that media consumption! I might know where you could find some fun entertainment…..

Sony has set “Spider-Man 4″ for release on May 6, 2011, while co-producer Marvel Studios locked into later slots than previously announced for three other comic-book actioners. As a result of the changes, Marvel pics will launch on the first weekend of May and kick off the box office summer in three straight years, starting with “Iron Man 2″ on May 7, 2010.

The moves also get Marvel off the hook of a commitment to produce two pics for release next year a pledge always considered a bit ambitious to begin with.

Among key date changes, Marvel will delay “Thor” by almost a year shifting its release to June 17, 2011, from the previously announced July 16, 2010 and moved “The First Avenger: Captain America” to July 22, 2011, from the previously announced May 6, 2011, which it has ceded to “Spider-Man 4.”

Marvel also postponed the release of “The Avengers” until May 4, 2012, from a previous July 15, 2011, slot. “Avengers” is positioned last among its upcoming pics so that characters figuring in the ensemble-superheroes action including Thor and Captain America can be introduced with their own movies.

Marvel will finance its own productions in full and release most films through Paramount, which handled last year’s smash “Iron Man.”

“This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel’s movie debut dates, big-screen character introductions and momentum,” Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel said. “It maximizes the visibility of our single-character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multicharacter ‘The Avengers.’”
