Turmoil at Tigerprince Radio

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Hey gang it’s Hank Davis here. Last week we made the decision to change In A Nutshell into individual sports and pro wrestling instead of an all in one super long show. With out Big Mike to do the videogame segment, it made it increasingly difficult to carry the videogame portion of the show.

Effective immediately 2nd Hour and Left of Center have been cancelled! Let’s Talk Women is on hiatus and In A Nutshell will either be divided into two separate shows (sports and pro wrestling) or cancelled altogether if we can’t get on the same page.

I will continue to work hard to figure out shows that I can do by myself that will be fun, entertaining and beneficial to the listeners. However I’ve received a lot of feedback that you guys prefer the interaction between the hosts and do not care so much for the solo shows (which I can totally understand).

Please stay subscribed and tuned in to Tigerprince.com for more details. I will have more news on this situation later this week.

Detainees cell sealed with pepper spray

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Six American sailors working as prison camp guards in Iraq face courts martial for abusing detainees, some of whom were sealed in a cell with pepper spray.

The US Navy said seven other sailors were given non-judicial punishments over the incident, which took place on May 14 at Camp Bucca, the vast desert camp in southern Iraq where the US military houses 18,000 of its 21,000 prisoners.

“Two detainees suffered minor abrasions as a result of the alleged assaults, eight others were confined overnight in a detainee housing unit which was sprayed with riot control agent and then the ventilation secured,” the Navy said in a statement.

Navy Fifth Fleet spokeswoman Commander Jane Campbell said the riot control agent was pepper spray. None of the victims required medical attention apart from the two who were beaten, she said.

“The day that this all took place there had actually been some unrest at the camp. There had been some detainee-on-guard issues, which ranged from spitting to throwing bodily functions at some guards,” she said.

The six facing courts martial have remained with their unit at the prison camp but were removed from duty.

“They are no longer doing the mission of guards,” Commander Campbell said.

The courts martial will begin at Camp Bucca within the next 30 days.

The seven guards already subjected to the less-severe system of non-judicial punishment had mainly faced accusations that they failed to report the incident, rather than being accused of taking part themselves, she said.

Two had their charges dismissed and the rest were given reductions in rank, with some also docked pay or confined to base for 45 days.

Use of pepper spray in warfare is banned by international treaties on chemical weapons, but many governments say members of their armed forces are permitted to use it in war zones for law-enforcement duties.

Politician shot and killed

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

A man barged into the Arkansas Democratic headquarters Wednesday and fatally shot the state party chairman before speeding off in his pickup. Police later shot and killed the suspect after a 30-mile chase. Police identified the suspect as 50-year-old Timothy Dale Johnson of Searcy, a town about 50 miles northeast of Little Rock.

40 year old virgin—(criminal)?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

An actor who appeared in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after his former girlfriend was stabbed more than 20 times, authorities said Tuesday.

Shelley Malil, 43, was taken into custody late Monday as he left a train in Oceanside, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. He remained in custody on $2 million bail in San Diego’s Central Jail; his arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.

Authorities confirmed the victim’s identity as Kendra Beebe. According to her Facebook page, she is a 35-year-old mother of two who works as an insurance broker in Carlsbad, a coastal suburb.

She was listed in critical condition Monday, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. Spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said Tuesday she had no update on Beebe’s condition.

“Malil and the victim had apparently been in a dating relationship which recently ended,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Malil’s agent, Mark Measure of Abrams Artist Agency, declined to comment.

John Lennon’s killer denied parole

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

John Lennon’s killer was denied parole for a fifth time Tuesday by a board that said he remains a threat to the public. Mark David Chapman will remain in New York’s Attica Correctional Facility for at least two more years for gunning down the former Beatle nearly three decades ago on a Manhattan sidewalk.

Rocketboom and Sony team up!

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Rocketboom has announced a big distribution and advertising deal with Sony Pictures, giving the daily video blog exposure and promotion across all of Sony’s IP universe: via PS/3, Bravia TV and Crackle.

“Sony will handle all our advertising - if you want to advertise with Rocketboom, talk to Sony. It’s a ‘7-figure’ deal that will last ‘for a couple of years, most likely’,” explains Andrew Michael Baron. “Sony sees our vision and knows how we want to grow Rocketboom.”

“This takes care of the whole advertising question. We tried and [were not entirely happy with] BlipTV, Federated Media, the do-it-yourself route…” explains Baron. “Our expertise is in the studio and now we can focus on that.”

Andrew says he has some benchmarks in place, so that “if Sony doesn’t end up performing, RB can back out of the deal.”

The split between former Rocketboom host Amanda Congdon and Baron, back in summer 2006, was only resolved earlier this year, according to Baron. Until this was resolved, Rocketboom could not take on investors, enter into partnerships, nor look at acquisitions.

However, says Baron, “It gave me the opportunity to sit back and observe” what was going on in the industry, and look at which business models and which partnerships and which acquisitions worked… and which ones did not.

“Others have the idea right, to seize the opportunity to start new businesses, make new partnerships, forge new networks. It helps to pave the way and create the space, which helps to support other creators who might not be as savvy…”

“Other people [like Next New Networks with their $25million investment] grew too big, too quickly. This business [internet media] is not Tech 2.0. You don’t have to race to be first.”

“Their problem was building something too early, that was too big, and too scattered,” adds Baron. “They had okay stuff — a cartoon show, and a car show, and a show about making special effects. But you can’t leverage the audience from any one of those to watch any of the others. Creating good content can be so expensive, and the ad revenue to support that wasn’t there yet. It was too early.”

It’s James Bond in a landslide!

Popular Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan was the first choice of voters in a Muslim province in southern Philippines, having bested all his ‘competitors’ in a mock election held Tuesday using computerized machines.

DIGG-ING A HOLE?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

We cherry picked this story from our friends at http://www.newmediaguide.tv

Recently, Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose of Diggnation did an ad promo for Microsoft’s Zune digital media player. Some have likened it to an infomercial.

Microsoft appears to be turning to video podcasters and niche sites to help get the Zune, and other products, some traction.

Does this sort of advertising ruin a podcasters credibility? Will the almighty dollar take the creative out of new media? At the end of the day do you think new media will end up like old media (i.e. commercial city)? How should podcasters pay the bills? Feel free to join the conversation.

Lakers lose Hank turns into Hulk type creature!

Friday, June 13th, 2008

It’s all over but the crying. With that being said late last night Hank Davis turned into some sort of Hulky type creature and destroyed most of the city of Flint.

The entire time he was rampaging through Flint, Hank had a microphone and was asking people specifically how would they like their ass kicking. That’s Hank, interviewing with one hand and beating someone down with the other.

Too bad Liv Tyler never showed up to calm him down. That chick is hot!
